MediaFM
My role: Senior Product Designer.
Team: Product Manager, QA, Backend, and Frontend Developers.
Tools: Figma, Confluence, Jira.
Year: 2022.
1. Background
MediaFM is a streaming audio service that allows users to listen to their favorite radio station tracks, podcasts, and audiobooks, as well as choose from dozens of ready-made playlists or create their own.
2. Problem
The app does not meet modern requirements. It has an outdated design and limited functionality. There is no unified design for iOS and Android, and there is no monetization. Low retention and high churn rate: users download the app but do not use it and then delete it. The old version only offers radio listening and ready-made playlists.
3. Solution
To improve the app to the level of modern audio services like Spotify and Yandex.Music, it is necessary to redesign the app, expand its functionality by adding the ability to listen to podcasts and audiobooks, customize profiles according to interests, create custom playlists, and save tracks for offline listening. It is also necessary to add search, advertising integrations, and a subscription option for monetization.
4. Previous Design
The app was a simple aggregator of FM radio and internet stations. However, the app interface was outdated, and the functionality did not meet modern music service users' needs. MediaFM faced a lot of negative feedback and user churn.
5. Branding
All branding should be reflected on the covers of music and radio playlists. Images should be selected or created based on simple rules: they should have a focal object or character, with enough homogeneous space to place text information.
6. New Design
All branding should be reflected on the covers of music and radio playlists. Images should be selected or created based on simple rules: they should have a focal object or character, with enough homogeneous space to place text information.
